Short version: Caption downloads are handled in your browser. Network features are controlled by a clear choice in the extension: Allow Pro checks and anonymous reliability data, or Use local downloads only. If you choose local downloads only, the extension does not make remote license, reliability, or translation requests. Pro translation sends the subtitle lines you select to our translation service after you choose Translate and have allowed network features.
1. Your data choices
On first use, the extension asks you to choose a data setting. Until you choose, remote calls fail closed and local subtitle downloads remain available. You can change the setting later in the extension's Settings page.
- Allow Pro checks and anonymous reliability data: permits Pro license checks, Pro activation, requested Pro translation, and fixed-field reliability events. The event fields are described below.
- Use local downloads only: keeps ordinary downloads and local settings available, removes the cached remote identity and license cache, and blocks remote license and reliability calls. Pro features that need the service remain unavailable until you choose the first setting.
2. Data handled locally
Chrome storage on your device can contain:
- Settings such as format, preferred caption language, player-button visibility, file-name preference, and TXT paragraph preference.
- A daily free-download counter.
- Recent download history, including a video ID, video title, language, format, translation flag, and download time. This history stays in Chrome storage and is not sent as reliability data.
- A cached Pro license result, when you have allowed remote features.
- A random device ID, when a remote license or reliability request is enabled. It is not a browser advertising ID.
- Your current privacy choice.
To clear this local data, use the browser's extension data controls or uninstall the extension. You can also choose local downloads only, which removes the cached license and random device ID used for remote features.
3. Reliability and product events
When you choose Allow Pro checks and anonymous reliability data, the extension may send a fixed event record to peakproductivity.online. The record can contain:
- A random device ID, extension name, extension version, event name, timestamp, and an explicit consent flag.
- Fixed outcome fields such as stage, success or failure result, a safe error code, caption type, and a broad latency bucket.
- Product-flow events such as first open, first action, activation, paywall, checkout start, caption extraction, translation, download, copy, and batch outcomes.
These events do not contain video URLs, video IDs, video titles, subtitle text, page content, browsing history, cookies, account passwords, email addresses, or payment-card details. Reliability data is used to find failures, understand activation, and improve the extension. It is not used for advertising profiles or sold to data brokers.
4. Pro license and payment data
When you activate or check a Pro subscription, the extension sends the random device ID and the email address or license key that you enter to our license service at peakproductivity.online. The service uses this information to connect a device to a subscription and return the current license status. A Pro device ID can therefore be associated with the email used for that subscription. We do not describe that device ID as anonymous after this association.
Stripe processes the checkout and payment details. We receive subscription and license metadata needed for entitlement, support, refunds, and accounting, but we do not receive your full card number or security code. Stripe's privacy terms apply to the payment information it processes.
5. Pro translation
Translation is a user-triggered Pro feature. After you click Translate, the extension sends the selected subtitle lines, the target language, the random device ID, and the consent flag to our translation endpoint at peakproductivity.online/youtube-subtitle-downloader/api/translate. The endpoint sends the selected lines and target language to GLM AI through z.ai, with DeepSeek V4 Flash available as a service fallback, and returns the translated lines.
The translation request does not need your YouTube cookies, YouTube password, video URL, video ID, video title, or payment-card details. Our reliability event for a translation attempt contains outcome fields rather than the subtitle text. The translation processor may retain request data under its own published terms. We do not use selected subtitle text for advertising or unrelated profiling.
6. Limited Use and data we do not collect
Limited Use commitment: We use and transfer user data only to provide or improve the extension's single purpose, for security and support, to meet legal obligations, or to complete a Pro translation that the user requests. We do not sell user data or use it for personalized advertising, creditworthiness, or lending.

Optional uninstall feedback
After uninstall, the browser can open our feedback page. If you choose to submit that form, we receive the reason category and any free-text comment you enter. The form asks you not to include personal information. Submitting feedback is optional.
9. Retention and deletion
Local settings, quota, history, privacy choice, cached license result, and device ID remain in Chrome storage until you clear extension data, uninstall the extension, or choose local downloads only as described above.
Our license service keeps subscription and license records for as long as needed to provide the subscription, handle support, refunds, accounting, fraud prevention, and legal obligations. Reliability records and optional uninstall feedback are kept for operational analysis for as long as needed, then deleted or aggregated. We do not intentionally retain subtitle text in reliability records. Translation processors may apply their own retention rules.
To request deletion of a license record, device association, reliability record, or other personal data we control, email support@peakproductivity.online. Tell us the email or device information that identifies the request. We will confirm the scope, remove data that we are not required to retain, and explain any legal or operational retention that remains.
10. Chrome Web Store data disclosure
For the Chrome Web Store privacy form, this extension declares the following categories because the corresponding data is transmitted in the cases described above:
- Personally identifiable information: email used for a Pro license or support request.
- User activity: fixed-field feature and success or failure events after opt-in.
- Website content: selected subtitle lines sent for a user-requested Pro translation. Ordinary caption downloads remain local.
- Personal communications: the reason and optional comment that a user chooses to submit through the uninstall feedback form.
Financial and payment information, authentication information, location, health information, and web history are not collected by the extension. We do not sell user data. We do not use or transfer data for creditworthiness or lending. Data is used for the extension's single purpose, license operation, requested translation, reliability, optional feedback, security, support, and required business records.

This extension works with caption tracks that YouTube makes available to the browser. It does not circumvent DRM or download video or audio. You are responsible for complying with YouTube's terms, the creator's rights, and applicable law when you save or reuse captions.

12. Contact and changes
Questions, privacy requests, or concerns can be sent to support@peakproductivity.online. If this policy changes in a material way, we will update the date above and provide a notice in an appropriate product or website surface.
