In-browser download

No redirect, no copying URLs. A download button appears directly in the popup while you're on any YouTube video page.

🌍

Every language

The popup lists every caption track YouTube provides for that video. Choose the language you want, download instantly.

📄

SRT, VTT, and clean TXT

SRT for subtitle editors. VTT for web video players. TXT strips all timestamps for a clean, readable transcript.

🤖

Auto-generated captions

YouTube's automatic captions work too. If the video has any caption track available, you can download it.

🔒

Uses the YouTube page you opened

Caption requests run from the YouTube page in Chrome. Availability still depends on the caption tracks that YouTube provides for that video.

🌐

AI translation Pro

Translate any subtitle file to your language automatically. Powered by GLM AI, with a DeepSeek V4 Flash service fallback, and returned as a ready-to-use SRT file.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before installing.

Does this download the video or audio?
No. YouTube Subtitle Downloader downloads only subtitle and caption files (SRT, VTT, TXT). Captions are user-permitted text data. This extension does not download or circumvent any video or audio content.
How does it fetch captions?
The extension reads the caption tracks that YouTube exposes on the video page you opened in Chrome. A download is available only when YouTube provides a caption track for that video and language.
What if a video has no subtitles?
If YouTube has no caption tracks available for a video (not even auto-generated), the popup will show a "No subtitles available" message. There is nothing to download because YouTube itself has nothing to provide.
Is this affiliated with YouTube or Google?
No. YouTube Subtitle Downloader is an independent Chrome extension by Peak Productivity. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to YouTube or Google in any way.
What does Pro AI translation cost to run?
Pro translation runs on GLM AI via our backend, with a DeepSeek V4 Flash service fallback. The $5/month or $39/year Pro subscription covers this server cost. Free users cannot access translation.
Can I get a refund?
Yes. Within 30 days of purchase, email support@peakproductivity.online and we will refund you, no questions asked.
What permissions does the extension need and why?
storage: save your settings, daily quota counter, and license. activeTab and scripting: read the YouTube page's caption track list when you click the extension icon. downloads: save the subtitle file to your Downloads folder. youtube.com host permission: access caption data on YouTube pages. peakproductivity.online: license verification and Pro translate API.
Does my subtitle data get sent to your servers?
Free downloads are handled in your browser. The extension asks whether to allow Pro checks and anonymous reliability data or use local downloads only. If you choose Pro translation and allow network features, selected subtitle lines and the target language are sent to our server and GLM AI through z.ai, with a DeepSeek V4 Flash service fallback. The full privacy policy lists the device, license, telemetry, processors, retention, and deletion choices.
